***PLEASE NOTE: OMSA will require that all referees pay upfront for all referee courses at the time of registration for courses. Once referees are certified and the referee completes a minimum 4 game commitment through the season all course fees will be reimbursed with final paychecks. NOTE: if you fail your course, OMSA will NOT pay for course fees. If you fail and then pass the retake, OMSA will only reimburse for the original course fees and none of the retake fees associated. You will still be required to complete the 4 game minimum in order for the reimbursement.
2024 OMSA Referee Pay rates:
U9 (Mini Refs): $25 per game
U11 (Mini Refs): $35 per game (Centre Ref) $25 per game (Assistant Ref)
U13 (Entry Level Ref): $45 per game (Centre Ref) $30 per game (Assistant Ref)
U15: $50 for Center Refs, $30 for Assistant Ref
U17 & U19: $60 for Center Refs, $40 for each Assistant Ref (x 2)
Mini- Referee Courses (12 yrs and older)
A one-day introductory course for people 12 years and older (on or before May 15th), who would like to referee U9 and younger only. Note - Mini Referees are NOT taught assistant referee duties and are NOT qualified to run lines. This is a CSA directive, which Alberta Soccer fully supports and follows.
The cost per student for the course will be determined by the hosting organization.
The course covers:
Students are supplied with - 7 v 7 Rules of Mini Soccer, referee badge and whistle.

Mini courses usually run in the spring, in preparation for the outdoor season, but occasionally are run at other times of the year.
Entry Level Courses
A two day introductory course for people 14 years or older (on or before May 15th), who would like to referee U11 8v8, U13 and older 11v11, or act as an assistant referee (linesman) at any level.
The cost per student for the course will be determined by the hosting organization.

Note - some districts or clubs supply additional items, such as referee uniforms, assistant flags etc
After successfully completing the course, referees are classified as follows:
14 and 15 years old = Youth Referee
16 years and older = District Referee

Refresher Courses
For existing 11v11 referees (not mini referees), there is a mandatory refresher course prior to the start of the outdoor and indoor seasons.
Note - you must have paid your registration for the current year, and must complete the Refresher Questionnaire,
prior to signing up for a Refresher Course.
Note - ‘Mini’ referees should contact their local assignor regarding a refresher course.
